Memory Game

For the Fall 2022 semester, the Memory Game Team is beginning to construct our new innovative toy for Kids Play Gym. We are working to design a game that incorporates shapes, colors, sounds and lights.

Shapes

The Memory Team decided on the specific shapes and colors that would be assigned to them during the transition from Week 4 to Week 5. We considered whether the shapes should all be a combination of familiar shapes that children would recognize and distinguish, or whether they should all be randomized. We decided that the shapes should all have a different number of sides and curves in order to be distinguishable.

Right: Infill provides more rigidness and sturdiness (opaque on the sides on the sides of the shape)
Left: No-infill allows the shape to be squeezed and pressed on.

Prototype #1
Created by taping together pieces of paper to create the exact measurements of the top view of the Memory game. Later, the shapes were measured to 3"x3" dimensions, and the buttons were measured to 1"3x1"3 dimensions for each shape. Each shape was colored in with colored pencils, but the colors were not yet assigned to the shapes. In addition, it was agreed upon that each color would be assigned to a shape, and we made certain that the LEDs we purchased matched the color of the buttons.

Prototype #2
Created by measuring out the exact shape of our box with cardboard. We decided to cut shapes out of the box's face that contained the precise dimensions it was given. In addition, we made a duct tape latch and taped it to the bottom of the box.

Materials

As we approach the 12th week of our Fall semester, it is time to build our product!

You can see selected shapes, such as a heart, square, triangle, and star, that have been 3D printed using acrylic in the image. To demonstrate how our chosen LED will shine through our 3D printed object, a phone was placed beneath the square shape with its flash turned on. It is also displayed that our microSD card and the Arduino have been purchased.

All of the materials needed for the project have been purchased and are waiting to be delivered to the EPICS lab!
